Report

A Big game in the last League Cup group B, that would help decide the finishing positions in the group, with Torquespeed taking on Focus Ferrers at St Luke's on a beautiful day.
The Youth were off to a flyer start and were passing the ball around well, with most of the play going through Harri Kent who was playing in the middle. Great play between Harri and Matthew Benton who were knocking the ball about with ease with Matthew powering up the left causing problems for the Focus defence.
Mark Bennett playing up front looked a threat but it was Matthew Benton cutting in on his right who shot and found the bottom right corner to make it 1-0.

Other chances came but it was almost to easy for Torquespeed creating chance after chance and with the Torquespeed players lining up to shoot they were unable to increase their lead, they were made to pay for their misses with Focus Ferrers scoring to make it 1-1.
Not letting that set back get to them, the midfield pushed hard and with Daniel Prior now on causing problems, the ball was put into the box and Kalan Revell turning the ball into the net neatly to make it 2-1.
Not out of it though Focus Ferrers pushed hard and if not for Reece Wimpress in goal they would have got back on level terms when he was forced into 2 good saves before the half time whistle came to a close.
A good first half from the Youth ended with them causing Focus Ferrers alot of trouble and it looked only a matter of time before the lead was increased.
Second half started with Owen Cookson up front who immediately caused trouble, hassling Focus and generally playing really well.
The defence of Oliver Douglas and Jake Godderidge maybe for the first time this season weren't as tight as in previous games, partly from the fact that the Focus team were leaving 2 and 3 players up front all the time but also from the players themselves losing concerntration, which meant Reece Wimpress in goal was involved in the game more than he had been for a few weeks, he was certainly up for the challenge and made some great saves, one of which when the ball looked like it was going in from a shot he dived to his left and stopped a certain goal. The defenders even though they let the attackers get past them did improve and made some crucial tackles when mistakes had been made and were both involved in the play going forward, and their runs created several chances for the midfield and striker of The Youth From Tiptree.
The 3rd goal came shortly after the break from Daniel Prior who powered through the middle and scored a good goal to make it 3, Mark Bennett was played through one on one with the keeper with there being only one winner, scoring the teams 4th and then both Mark Bennett and Owen Cookson both scored to make it 6-1, Owen Cookson scoring a cracking left foot shot that found the top of the goal. An Earlier effort from Owen with Matthew Benton powering down the left and putting a superb first time cross into the box with Owen Cookson hitting a sweet volley just over the bar, which would surely would have been a goal of the season contender.
The final whistle blew which saw Torquespeed beating Focus Ferrers 6-1 and with the other games in the group going our way helped us finish top of group B and 2 Semi final games home and away to Great Notley to look forward to.
A wonderful game from a group of players who may not always win but try so hard to do what the management want and a never die spirit to succeed, and are an absolute pleasure to work, train and be around.
Well done Torquespeed Under 9's......
